Orangeville Wind Turbine Project
In order for Wind Turbines (Wind Energy Conversion Devices) to be allowed in the Town of Orangeville several steps needed to take place.
1) Proper Zoning for the Wind Turbines – The zoning of Wind Turbines was part of the Towns re-zoning project. This was completed and went into Law in September 23, 2009. We at CSOO do not believe that the setbacks in place are sufficient enough to protect the Health, Safety, and Welfare of the towns’ citizens and property owners. The Planning Board voted unanimously on the initial setback from property lines of 1000’ from property line. Later the Planning Board re-voted and reduced the setback. The setbacks were presented to the Town Board who decided that the setback from property lines should be 700’. This setback all but eliminates property owners from building safely on any property they may currently wish to build upon as the minimum safe setback from a dwelling, determined by the Town Board, is ¼ mile (1320 Feet). CSOO challenged the Zoning Law in court and is planning on appealing the negative result from the Judge in the case.
2) Application for Wind Turbines – Once Zoning is in effect to allow Wind Turbines; an application by a developer needs to be submitted. Invenergy submitted such an application on October 1, 2009.
3) Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS)
4) Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS)
